Brad Pitt wants to mentor 12 Years a Slave co-star Lupita Nyong'o

Brad Pitt is said to be mesmerised by Lupita Nyong'o.

The two star together in 12 Years a Slave, which won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Drama and is nominated for nine Oscars.
Brad and Lupita attended the SAG awards and Producers Guild Awards together earlier this month, and Brad is said to be keen to help 30-year-old Lupita's career.
"He thinks she’s mesmerising on screen and wants to mentor her. In Angelina Jolie's absence they went as each other's dates to both ceremonies and were locked in conversation all night. They also had brunch at his LA home on the day of the SAG Awards after Brad flew in from Australia," a source revealed to British magazine Grazia.
Angelina is yet to meet Lupita, but is keen to do so with sources commenting that she's a big fan of her work.
"Angelina's desperate to meet Lupita. She thinks she's incredible. They've invited her to stay to discuss what they can work on with Brad's Plan B Entertainment company," the source remarked.
Lupita scooped the prize for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her portrayal of Patsey in 12 Years a Slave, which prompted Brad to gift the actress with a gold Cartier watch say insiders.
"She was overwhelmed. He wants to start championing new talents and Lupita is top of his list and she's all for it - after all, this is Brad Pitt! We'll definitely be seeing them around together a lot more from now," the source added.

Justin Bieber battles ‘very public’ fall

1391195182478318200.jpg

Justin Bieber is the latest in a long line of troubled former child stars to veer off the rails — the question now is, can those around him save the teen from a complete train wreck. And if so, how?
A spell in rehab? A tough-love crackdown by his management or family? It remains to be seen if the latest brushes with the law will prove a wake-up call for the 19-year-old Canadian heartthrob.
“If I were his manager, my temptation would be to just send Justin to his room for three months,” Robert Thompson, a professor of pop culture at Syracuse University, told AFP.
“The problem is .. there’s 400 paparazzi outside his room taking pictures, not to mention he’s tweeting from his room ... If he tweets from the police station, he’s gonna tweet from anywhere.”
For those who follow Bieber’s antics closely, his arrest in Miami Beach and assault charges in Toronto — within the space of less than a week — are hardly surprising.
Tabloid media have for months chronicled his repeated run-ins with police and neighbors in and around the plush mansion where he lives in Calabasas, northwest of Los Angeles.
The singer has also found himself trouble with authorities in Australia and Brazil for spraying graffiti. In Brazil, Bieber was photographed emerging under a blanket from a notorious Rio brothel.
But unlike similar America hell-raisers, the Canadian could in theory be booted out of the United States, where he has made his career.
On Thursday a public petition on the White House website passed 200,000 signatures, twice the threshold to merit an official response.
“We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing Justin Bieber deported,” it said.
“He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nation’s youth.” That came after he was charged on Jan. 23 with driving under the influence after police caught him allegedly drag racing in Miami Beach, Florida.
Then on Wednesday he was charged with assaulting a limousine driver in Canada, after turning himself in at a Toronto police station with a crowd of female fans screaming their support.
Bieber is following in the footsteps of the likes of Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, “Home Alone” star Macaulay Culkin, Demi Lovato and more recently “High School Musical” heartthrob Zac Efron.
Michael Jackson was another child star who patently struggled to make the transition to the grown-up world.
Bieber — a global star who has over 49 million Twitter followers — seemed to compare himself to Jackson last week, in an Instagram posted after he was charged in Miami.
The post showed Bieber in a dark hoodie, waving outside jail, alongside an image of Jackson a decade ago when the King of Pop was fighting child molestation charges.
“What more can they say,” read the caption. Media reports said Bieber’s father Jeremy — who split from the star’s mother when he was just a baby — was involved in the alleged drag racing.
Canada’s Globe and Mail newspaper said Bieber’s troubles can “be read as an indictment of modern permissive parenting; a cautionary tale about a fatherless upbringing in a single-mom home.”
But, like many non-American entertainers, Bieber — who Forbes magazine says made $58 million in 2013 — lives and works in United States under a so-called O-1 visa.
Thompson said the deportation risk is therefore minimal.
“It’s amusing, but I cannot possibly imagine he could ever be deported .. boy, we’ve plenty of our own home grown types that are worse influences than Justin is,” he said.
But he added that, while young celebrities have always gone off the rails, social media means that every mis-step is played out under an unrelenting public spotlight.
“Hollywood stars back in the golden age of Hollywood, they were getting into trouble all over the place. The studios were normally able to squelch it, they knew reporters, had little deals here and there.
“That’s impossible now. These stories are going to get out,” he said.
Celebrity news site TMZ reported Bieber wants to move out of his gated community — where Jackson’s family also lives — to an area where there are no “rules and regulations and nosy neighbors.”
Whatever happens, the story will inevitably run and run. “You couldn’t write a better drama. There is innocence. There is pathos. There is suspense. There is tragedy,” said the Globe and Mail.

Brad and Angie to live in Jozi this year

Hollywood’s royal couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will move to South Africa this year while he works on a new film, local media reported yesterday.
The pair, who have six children together, have rented a house in the upmarket Johannesburg suburb of Sandhurst for $7 600 (R85 485) a month, sister newspaper Beeld reported, citing a source involved in the private rental deal.
The couple will live in South Africa while Pitt works on a new film with actor George Clooney, the newspaper said. It is unclear when the pair will arrive or if their children will be joining them.
It will not be the couple’s first stay in the region. They travelled to Swakopmund in neighbouring Namibia in 2006, where Jolie gave birth to their first biological child, daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt.
Local film industry sources were unable yesterday to confirm Pitt’s upcoming project.

Justin Bieber: Alleged assault on Toronto limo driver triggered by radio volume argument, report say

Justin Bieber’s alleged assault of a Toronto limo driver on Dec. 30 was reportedly triggered by the not-loud-enough volume of the vehicle’s radio, according to TMZ.

Justin Bieber’s alleged assault of a Toronto limo driver on Dec. 30 was reportedly triggered by the not-loud-enough volume of the vehicle’s radio, according to TMZ.
The American news outlet reports that Bieber’s people wanted the volume turned up higher as he cruised the Toronto entertainment district with an entourage.
The driver obliged, but just to a point.
When he wouldn’t turn it any louder, things got ugly, according to TMZ.
Meanwhile, in other Bieber news, a female Miami police officer finds herself under investigation after reportedly trying to take a photo of Bieber while he was under arrest in Florida last week for drag racing.
Making the drag racing incident more bizarre, there’s no evidence that he was actually racing, according to records TMZ claims to have obtained.
Miami police have already subpoenaed a video from TMZ which they suspect might show the former Stratford, Ont., resident racing.
The rented Lamborghini is capable of cheek-popping speeds, but it reached a maximum of only 71 km/h, according to the U.S. news outlet.
But Miami Police say he was clocked at speeds between 88-97 km/h.
He has pleaded not guilty to DUI, resisting arrest, and driving without a licence in relation to the incident.
If Bieber’s rattled, then he’s apparently cooling his nerves in the entertainment district of Toronto, as some media reports have him at Switch Nightclub, near King St. E. and Church St., until the wee hours of Friday.
Meanwhile, an American petition to have him deported continues to swell. It’s now at 138,000 signatures.
The White House must give a reply to any petition with more than 100,000 names.

My Greater Disappointment with today’s Nollywood— Clarion Chukwurah

ClarionTwo years ago, ageless beauty and veteran actress, Clarion Chukwurah took a break from acting to tour three countries following her position as a special UN peace envoy. She’s back in the country and upon her return, she bagged a prestigious award in recognition of her contribution towards the development of the Nigerian film industry. But in spite of all these, Chukwurah still feels disappointed with a lot of things happening in the industry. She bares her mind on the issues.
You recently won ‘Legends of Nollywood’award. How do you feel being recognised as a legend in the industry?
I was on location in Enugu when the award was held and as you can see, ‘Best Female Act, Mirror in the Sun, Clarion Chukwurah’. The award was received on my behalf by my publicist, Cornell Udofia. This award is yearly organised by Paul Obazele’s company, Royal Pictures. Frank Rajah, I think was part of it as well as Zack Orji and many others. I appreciate the award having been given this recognition for the role I played in the now rested ‘Mirror in the Sun.’ But I think that the name of the award and the work for which it was given is rather misplaced.
That is because the award is called, ‘Legends of Nollywood’. Nollywood is today’s euphemism for the Nigerian film industry. ‘Mirror in the Sun’ was the second national network soap opera. It was a television drama. I understand that before the award was held, AMP president,Mr. Zik Zulu Okafor and other stakeholders celebrated Nollywood at 20, which witnessed an award ceremony called Legends of Nollywood Awards.
They honoured those whom they considered as foremost actors and cinematographers in the industry.
However, when Paul Obazele set out to hold his own Legends of Nollywood award, he gave people the impression that he was going to correct the anomalies. I was expecting Zik Zulu’s ‘Legends of Nollywood’awards to honour actors, producers, directors, cinematographers who have made their marks dating back to late 1950s, till the advent of the new Nollywood. That was my expectations.
They actually wanted to give me an award for ‘Koko Close’, a TV drama I did in Ibadan while I was an undergraduate in the University of Ife. I was surprised, you are talking about ‘Legends of Nollywood’ and you are giving me an award for a role I played in a TV drama. Are you not confused here? I expected to see the likes of Chief Hubert Ogunde being given a posthumous award, MKO Abiola who was the first Nigerian business mogul to sponsor a multi million Naira technicolour Nigerian film titled ‘Bisi Daughter of the River’.
I was expecting to see Kunle Afolayan received a posthumous award on behalf of his father, Sunday Omobolanle’s (Aluwe) first wife stepping out to an award on behalf of her father, Moses Olaiya, Jeta Amata mounting the stage to pick an award on behalf of his grand father.
That was what I expected to see at the ‘Legend of Nollywood’ awards. But whilst Zik Zulu and his partners deliberately refused to recognise that there was a film industry before the production of teh movie, ‘Living in Bondage’, Obazele’s faction proved themselves more ignorant by lumping TV and everything together.
They are two different things. I think it’s high time, the Nollywood practitioners should stop feigning ignorance and face the truth that before Jesus Christ, there was Abraham. Before Nollywood, there was a Nigerian film industry and that is the main reason Nollywood is stagnant today. That is why Nollywood is not growing. If a child doesn’t recognise his mother, how can he grow? If you don’t know where you are coming from, how would you know here you are going to?
No doubt, you are a legend in the Nigerian motion picture industry. What’s the difference between Nollywood of yesteryears and today’s Nollywood?
It hasn’t improved at all. It is now a proverbial ‘ state’ that makes one to weep. Everything has fallen to a disgraceful state. No standards are left. I was on a location in Enugu last month and the production manager was insulting the director of photography. I was shocked.
The producer and the director were shouting at each other. I could not imagine it. The artistic director would just walk away and actors are not directed on what to do. Any greenhorn could hit the set and believe that she could sleep her way to the top. She is pretty and sleeps with the Executive Producer. It’s just sickening. And they say to you, this movie is meant for the market and the cinema. It is not for film festival, just do it anyhow because this is for inside the market. That goes to show there are no standards. It is pathetic.
We didn’t see much of you last year in the movies?
I was out of the country for two years. I came back in May last year and I shot my very first movie in the same month. I shot about six movies from May through December 15th when I returned to my home. Those movies were, Last Family Reunion, That Fateful Night, Hustlers, The God of the Ghetto and Apaye, Land of Canaan.
Why did you travel abroad for two years?
I was appointed a United Nations international special peace envoy on international peace day at the ECOWAS building in Abuja. I had two years to travel to three countries in the course of my NGO because I was given that appointment in recognition of my NGO, Clarion Chukwurah Initiative International.
We have been dealing with women and children. More over, I worked in Kenya, Tanzania and Los Angeles. In those two years, I was travelling from Kenya to Tanzania and LA.
It was wonderful.
For me, I have achieved something that gives me a deep sense of satisfaction, a feeling that I have an edge above all this issue of fame. I have risen above all that. In Kenya, my initiative was supporting this community school in a slum called Soweto Kayole in Nairobi. When I started working in that community, I encountered school children who are fatherless and whose mothers are HIV/AIDS patients. I had about 50 of them, but before the end of October 2012, the number increased to 350 children. They increased when they heard I had a daily feeding programme for the children.
They also had no clothes. I put uniform on the back of every kid and sandals on their feet. We had environmental sanitation, health aids and collaborating with the UN Habitat and the Rotary. I am a member of the rotary club of Nairobi. The bulk of the members are non Africans- Italians, Americans, British and others.
They were bringing support to help teach these children and of course, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, East Africa, a section of which I am a member. Even when Daddy Adeboye came for the East Africa convention, he saw my work and commended it. Mummy G.O. also prayed for me.
For their mothers, we taught them about basic personal and environmental hygiene. We built toilets, cleared gutters and taught them how to protect themselves against sex related diseases. We also put them on drugs for HIV AIDS. Because the UN headquarters is there, there are a lot of bodies to collaborate with for an NGO like mine which is recognised. We started skill acquisition.
In Los Angeles, I got support from the Church of Science in Hollywood to produce some episodes on women empowerment and women related issues in terms of what is happening in the Caribbean were men are killing their wives and girlfriends. It happens in Kenya. The idea is to bring these issues to the fore what African heritage men are doing to their women so that we can look at these issues and find a way to re-orient the women on how to handle them.
We also reached out to the men to learn to handle things differently and this we sent to the TV. The initiative representative in Canada, Nicola Rodney came to the state for this programme so that she could take it back for informative training to impact on the lives of women in the Caribbean especially in Guyana.
This is an era where actors and actresses are producing their own movies; do you have plans to go into movie production?
I do have plans for that but I don’t want to look at it as producing my movies. I intend also to do a lot of collaborations. I talked about how things are.
I intend to work in and outside the mainstream Nollywood world and to collectively move Nollywood forward.
What is the way forward?
The mainstream Nollywood world is the one that caters for the populace, not necessarily the cinema movies. And with the new distribution channel that is coming, the important thing is for the professionals to come into it and not say we can’t relate with this people. In order to make things right, you have to go back in there with a determination to make things right.
You are still looking beautiful after putting in several years in the movie industry. What’s the secret of your ageless looks?
The secret is discipline. You have to be as my son Brian would say wellness freak. You have to know when to exercise. You have to know the importance of water, eating the right things. It is about healthy living, healthy eating.
Aside movie making and your NGO, what else do you do?
I have a clothing line. I still have the C3. We have a partner outlet in Toronto, Kenya and the UK. We are doing well by God’s grace.
Are you not thinking of marriage?
Give me a break. Please don’t ask. Don’t go there. Please spare me.

Beyonce And Solange Celebrated Tina Knowles’ 60th Birthday With A Flaw-Free Masquerade Ball

Happy 60th birthday, Tina Knowles! Was our invitation to your totally bomb party lost in the mail?!

When they’re not busy slaying the music game dead, sisters Beyoncé andSolange apparently double as party planners! (What, didn’t you see that private zoo blowout mama Bey threw for Blue Ivy’s 2nd birthday?)
This time, family matriarch Tina Knowles got the royal b’day treatment. And, based on the photos Bey just shared on her Tumblr, it was QUITE the masquerade-themed New Orleans bash the Knowles sibs threw for their mama last Saturday. Before we get into the party deets, can we just wish Ms. Tina Knowles  a happy belated 60th? (Her actual birthday was on Jan. 4, FYI.) Not only did the woman give birth to Beyoncé, give birth to Solange, and design some of Destiny’s Child’s most ICONIC matching outfits, but Tina manages to look more stunning in a ballgown than most people half her age could ever dream. EVERYBODY #BOWDOWN.
Anyway, some highlights from the event: Mama Tina arrived in — brace for it — a horse-drawn carriage. Like Cinderella! And, word on the street is that a video montage coordinated by family and friends played on a big screen. #Emotional #JustLikeABatMitzvah
Beyonce and Solange knowles threw their mama Tina an amazing 60th birthday party in New Orleans! Check out some photos from the bash
This photo of Bey dancing with her nephew, Juelz, is like one swift kick to the ovaries.
Famous guests included Jay Z (OBVS), Kelly RowlandJennifer HudsonBig Freedia, Kris Jenner, and Kendall Jenner, who were all decked out in full masquerade regalia!

Legit, this whole shindig sounds like the picture-perfect birthday party, thrown by picture-perfect daughters. The only thing that mayyyyybe could’ve made the party better would be if proud Grandma Tina had gotten to party the night away with little Blue Ivy.
Then again, Blue was probably off somewhere getting her beauty sleep, safely nestled in a cashmere blanket in a diamond-encrusted crib. But, that sounds like a bomb night as well!

Justin Bieber will star in ‘Expendables 4’

The Biebs is taking his bad boy behavior to the big screen! Justin is set to star alongside the great Sylvester Stallone in the upcoming movie ‘The Expendables 4’, according to a new report. ‘That is for real,’ ‘Expendables’ actor Terry Crews promises.

Justin Bieber is coming soon to a theater near you! The Biebs has reportedly landed a role alongside Sylvester Stallone in the latest installment of The Expendables, which will most likely be released by the summer of 2016. Do you think Justin will be a good addition to the film?

One of the stars of the action-packed franchise unexpectedly let the exciting news about Justin, 19, slip to a reporter during the Audi Golden Globes Celebration in Hollywood, Calif. on Jan. 12.

“The next one, I am telling you, Justin Bieber is coming for ‘The Expendables 4,’” actor Terry Crews told Confidenti@l.

“That is for real, Bieber in ‘Expendables 4,’” Terry added. ”We are going to shoot him all at the same time. It will be wonderful.” The Expendables 4 is expected to film scenes in Bulgaria and will most likely be released by the summer of 2016.

Hopefully Justin will be able to clean up his act by the time filming begins!

As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, Justin could be charged with a felony after he allegedly egged his neighbor’s home on Jan. 9.

Officials at the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department believe they’ve got Justin this time. They’re certain that security video evidence of the egging in action, along with proof that it caused extensive damage, will be enough to pin him — and possibly even put him behind bars.

Beyonce’s fans

(ThyBlackMan.com) If you haven’t heard, (unless you’ve lived under a rock,) Beyonce shocked the music world by releasing her self-titled fifth album Beyoncé  via iTunes in December. As expected, her fans not only bought the album, but showered their grace upon their female messiah. And if you’re wondering, there are men out here who worships the ground she walks on. Yes, it’s that serious, folks. If her following was just a large group, now it’s a full-blown cult. With that said, it brings great shame that Beyoncé is under fire for having a photo on Instagram where it looks like she is replacing Jesus Christ on The Last Supper.
Why great shame? Because we acted like a day like this wouldn’t come. The media acted oblivious to this, too.  And of course, they now are sayingbeyonce-and-fansBeyoncé has taken it too far, even though they are mainly responsible for the gravy train. But if thrusting their anger and shock at Bey is their way to go, someone please point them to the nearest Beytree and show them where her Beyhives live.
Beyonce and her fan base is perhaps the equivalent to the perception of Ohio State fans (how do I know? Because I am an Ohio State fan.)  Loud, obnoxious, can’t tell us nothing, and extremely loyal. Sadly, saying anything bad about Beyonce is considered “blasphemous” as plenty have defended her on my Facebook. While the outrage given by the media is justifiable, they can’t act like they didn’t partially play a pivotal role in this. It’s impossible to overlook that if a celebrity gets enough false propaganda they, too, will believe they are past the wheeling’s and dealings of being human.
Once the celebrity believes it, it’s pretty much a done deal.  See: Kanye West, R. Kelly, the great Michael Jackson and any other major superstar. If I was with Beyoncé, I’d at least tell her (or whoever is handling her social media accounts) that maybe that post is a bad idea. But like most celebrity’s with entourages, usually it’s a “my way or the highway” type thing. Not saying it is, but her post may point in that direction. Of course, her fans bit the bullet and increased their worship of the singer. Of course, they are also were making excuses that people are going over their heads.
But let’s be real; the principle reason she can get away with a lot of things such as this Instagram post is because of the way her fans treat her as a God. Let a friend from high school or their neighbor down the street have people calling them a god or take a picture in front of the last supper and let’s see how many upsetting social media posts we will view. Let’s see how many times people would negatively scathe or demean that person cause of people calling them a god.
Yet, Beyonce, one of the entertainment world’s most politically-correct, carefully marketed stars in history is frequently called Bey-sus, King Bey, and is given a pass. It’s cool to think highly of someone, even an entertainer. But when the entertainer begins to smell themselves and do technically politically incorrect things with excuses from the fans, then you know it’s a problem with many roots.
So, no. I don’t blame Beyonce; even though I’m no fan of her at all (I like some of her music, though.) I think the perception of Beyonce is based mainly on propaganda; to be flawless, and her latest Instagram post exemplifies that. Is it her fault? No, but is it the fans fault for securely buying into an image, while forgetting the basis of common sense? Damn right. Contrary to popular belief, Beyonce is a human like us, too.

Sgt. George DeMarois says several witnesses identified West as being involved in an altercation around 12:15 p.m. on Monday at an office on exclusive Wilshire Boulevard. The rapper had left the premises by the time officers arrived.

Police said Tuesday they weren't releasing further details and Blair Berk, an attorney representing West in another case, declined comment.

West was charged last year with misdemeanor battery and attempted grand theft after a fight with a photographer at Los Angeles International Airport. He's pleaded not guilty in the case.

The photographer has sued West for assault and battery. West's attorneys stated that West was in fear for his safety.

AMC Reveals Mad Men's Final Season Premiere Date, Teases Better Call Saul's Debut

It's the beginning of the end. Mad Men is set to kick off its seventh and final season on Sunday, April 13 at 10 p.m., AMC announced at the 2014 Winter TCA Press Tour in Pasadena on Saturday.  Of course, there should be an asterikc next to that whole final season thing as, following Breaking Bad's lead, Mad Men's swan song will be expanded and divided into two parts, with the first half kicking off in April with a seven episode run, before returning for the final seven episodes ("The End of an Era") in spring 2015. But Don Draper's return to the small screen was almost overshadowed by some other big news AMC decided to drop during its panel: the tentative premiere date of Better »

Ke$ha's Mom Enters Same Rehab Facility as Her Daughter

Ke$ha isn't the only one in her family seeking treatment. The singer's mother, Pebe Sebert, is entering the same Chicago-area rehab center as her daughter, Sebert confirms to People. "I'm checking myself into Timberline Knolls today for post-traumatic stress disorder, at Ke$ha's urging," the 57-year-old said in a statement to the magazine. This news comes on the heels of Sebert speaking out against her daughter's advisers and blaming them for the 26-year-old's eating disorder. Sebert claimed earlier this week that the pop star was under enormous amounts of pressure to lose weight from people in her camp, including her producer Dr. Luke. "Dr. Luke had »

Young Jeezy charged with beating teen son

The altercation between Jay Wayne Jenkins, aka Young Jeezy, and his son stemmed from a text message from the son, the teen told police.
(CNN) -- Rapper Young Jeezy allegedly beat up his teenage son and threatened to kill him during an argument 15 months ago.
Jeezy -- whose real name is Jay Wayne Jenkins -- was released on a $45,000 bond on Friday, hours after turning himself into the jail on a grand jury warrant, Fulton County, Georgia, sheriff's spokesman Tracy Flanagan said.
The 36-year-old artist is set to appear in an Atlanta court on January 29 on felony charges of battery, terroristic threats and false imprisonment, Flanagan said.
His son told police the alleged incident at this Atlanta apartment in September 2012 "stemmed from a text message he sent to his father."
His father "walked into the bathroom where he was and slammed his head against the sliding shower door," then "picked him up and threw him into the wall in the bedroom," the police report said.
When the teen tried to run downstairs and away, he was blocked by his father's bodyguard, the report said.
Jeezy then "pulled him back into the room, threw him on the bed, choked him and stated 'I'll kill you," the son told police. He then allegedly threw him against a wall and onto the floor before kicking him in the head.
"The juvenile stated his father stated to him 'I'll put a bullet in your head right now,'" the report said.
The boy's mother called police two days later when her son returned to her and she noticed bruising and scratches on his face," the police report said.

I’m not at war with MI — Jesse Jagz

Jesse Jagz
Rap artiste, Jesse Jagz talks about his career and his exit from Chocolate City
How is life, now that you have exited Chocolate City?
It has been great. I have had to adjust but it is good because the same team that was with me at Chocolate City is the same team with me now and I have not had to do anything new. At the same time, it is still a lot of responsibility and that is why the adjustment is needed.
There has been a lot of misconception on why you let your former label…
I spent five years at Chocolate City. I got there in 2007 and left officially in 2012. Chocolate City is not my company. I had put in so much work in my new album and felt it was time for me to do things for myself. It was not a spur of the moment decision; it was something I had thought about over time. The reason why I probably did not tell anybody was because sometimes, family might be more concerned about you taking business risks. The day I took the decision, I did not tell anyone including my brother, MI. I produced about four albums for Chocolate City. I don’t owe them anything and I don’t know where the news that my contract had not run out came from.
Do you have your own label now?
It is not a label in anyway and I am not signing anybody on. Jagznation is just a business outfit, where I put out my music.
What’s the state of your relationship with the boss, Audu Maikori?
There is no fight. We have been talking and there is no personal war.
Will you continue to produce for Chocolate City artistes like it was the norm while you were there?
MI and Ice Prince are my brothers; therefore, we will always find time to work together.
 How about the other artistes?
I am not saying yes, but it is possible. For every other artiste, they will have to go through the normal process. If I like the song, then I will go on it.
Did your exit affect your relationship with MI who is an executive on the label?
I still saw him last week  and at my show I said, ‘MI I love you but I am at war with Chocolate City.’ I said this so that people can understand certain things. Yes, he is my brother but as an executive of that label, he must own up to other people and be the same thing applies to me. What if he was not my brother? I would still have to do what I did. We are not shooting Missiles at each other, it’s just business.
Brymo left Chocolate City soon after you did. Was that a conspiracy?
Brymo has been my friend before he even got signed on. He is still my friend but we never sat down to discuss our plans.
You happened to have moved on pretty well and have a new album…
It is an African thing for you to stop and praise yourself but for me and the team, this album is actually our first album and we are just starting. The name of the album is ‘Thy nation comes’ and it has 18 songs.
Did you feature any artistes from your former label?
I did not because I did not feature any rapper. I made it a point of duty not to have any rapper; I wanted to do it myself. Also, since I had just left, I wanted to put out music for me only and not involve anybody from that side.
Is it that you feel threatened by them?
I don’t. I was already through with the album without MI or Ice. The album was done before I even left Chocolate City.
 Do we foresee reconciliation?
I don’t think there needs to be reconciliation. Instead, the lines of the business just need to be properly disabled; just the same way they were put together.
It was rumoured that you were very broke and held a concert at the African Shrine and not at some posh venue on the Island?
That is one of the top echelon performance venues we have in Nigeria. It is a fantastic performance stage and well set up. Femi, Fela’s son, plays there weekly. They already have that tradition for a musician and not an artiste. I also chose that place for historical reasons and it’s a way of paying homage to Fela. Moreover, people on the mainland have been cut off from music. Most shows take place on the island. I wanted to do something for those who don’t have the N5000 or N10000. It was for them to come and enjoy good music for free. I can’t be broke and put up that kind of show.
Your songs are rebellious in nature, is this reflection of your person?
Aren’t all youths rebellious in some way? All youths are rebellious to some older person and I am being youthful. When I am 35, I might not have this energy again. I am 29 and this is the time I can correct the government through my music. I also get criticised.
You rarely socialise. Is this deliberate?
It is deliberate. I have always been that quiet and introverted person. With the Internet, television and radio, you are already in the faces of fans whether you want to be or not. I am just living as I have always lived.  I hate being put under the pressure of fame; therefore, I stay at home and make music which fundamentally is my job.
Do you regret not completing your degree in law?
No.  Though I did not finish, I read a lot and that was the reason why I left. For some, school does not help the mind to grow, it stifles it. For such minds, they need the freedom to learn more.
Your current physical looks has attracted a lot of distasteful comments
I don’t even know what they are saying.  Anybody who has known me will tell you I have always been a skinny boy. I added weight for a year and people were abusing me. I took time out to go back to my old weight and they are saying there is a problem.  I had a weight problem and I was getting obese. I had a lot of pimples on my face because of the fat in my body. Losing weight was something I had to do actively regardless of what people think.
You have a daughter. Is she taking after you?
My daughter is nine but she schools in Jos. I see her as often as I can and we have a relationship. But I don’t like to talk about her. I want her to have a life. She is taking after me and featured in several tracks on my latest album. She is three times better than I am.
Why did you not marry her mother?
We had her when I was 19. At that age, it was a lot more logical to allow the two of us grow and have a life instead of being together. We are still friends but we were too young to define anything. We can both love this child individually as opposed to getting married because we have a child.

I pray to have artistes bigger than Wizkid – Banky W

In a recent interview with a Nigerian radio station, Banky W has disclosed that his greatest prayer is to have artistes that will excel more than Wizkid, who is also singed under EME.
Banky W said, “Bad news is more interesting to people than good news and when you don’t give people bad news, they just find a way to create it just to get traffic to their website or sell their newspapers.
Contrary to what was reported, Wizkid never actually left (EME). We understood that we had to restructure because he was getting bigger.
He now has his imprint called, ‘Star Boy’, which is normal. Jay Z signed Kanye (West), who now has G.O.O.D Music. Everything is fine, Wizkid is still with the team. I am very proud of him and I pray that all of my artistes will grow as far as Wizkid and even more.”
